San Miguel de Allende has been named the best city in the world multiple times. So it’s no surprise that this historic destination is a great place to indulge in a luxurious Mexico vacation. I just got back and visited 6 stunning luxury hotels in San Miguel de Allende, and in my latest Mexico travel video, I showcase what makes each hotel special.
My sumptuous home base during this visit was the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, one of the town’s most luxurious hotels. It’s designed like a traditional hacienda but has all the modern amenities. (Be sure to check out my video tour of the Rosewood, including an inside tour of the gorgeous, $2,000-a-night villa where I stayed.)

I was also impressed with Casa 1810 Hotel Boutique, which is set in a historic building in the heart of downtown San Miguel de Allende. The historic architecture and stylish décor are truly lovely, and I was especially attracted to the guest room that has a fireplace that opens into the bedroom and the bathroom tub. Very cool. (you’ve got to watch the video to see it!) The rooftop restaurant is also a must-try, and it has great views.
Some rooms at Hacienda El Santuario San Miguel de Allende are graced with vaulted ceilings.
For an upscale and traditional vibe, I found lots to love at the Hacienda El Santuario San Miguel de Allende, which is set partly in a former convent. Unique folk art graces the property, and every guest room is different — some have lovely private decks with views, and my personal favorite has a beautiful vaulted ceiling. A small spa treatment room is new at the property, and the hotel bar is decorated with eye-catching murals. Don’t miss the creative San Miguelito cocktails here by bartender Roberto.

For an especially stylish and modern stay in a historical setting, I recommend Hotel Casa Blanca 7, which offers an enviable downtown location. The upscale rooftop bar and restaurant are a lovely place to relax, and the rooms feature a handsome and crisp design with Moroccan touches. Casa Blanca 7 also has an excellent clothing and gift shop and a lovely courtyard.
Also exuding a trendy vibe is Hotel Matilda, a member of Design Hotels that has just about everything a style-conscious traveler could want: an inviting swimming pool, excellent spa and spacious guest rooms with beautiful bathrooms. Original artwork is on display in just about every corner, and there are lots of places to relax. I could picture myself living in this space.
The restaurant at Hotel Matilda is also excellent, and is worth a visit even if you’re not a hotel guest.

Our next stop is also a member of Design Hotels: Dos Casas Spa & Hotel, a decidedly hip boutique style property also known for its outstanding restaurant. Memorable style is a trademark of Dos Casas, and the sophisticated urban design flair extends to the guest rooms. If you treat yourself to a room with a private rooftop deck at Dos Casas, you can relax while enjoying an especially noteworthy view of the city. Admiring the scenery, after all, is just one of the pleasures of staying in San Miguel de Allende.
