If you’re a fan of Mexican culture, Mexican traditions, Mexican costumes and traditional clothing, you won’t want to miss this colorful travel video and my photo portfolio from Tianguis Turistico 2022, Mexico’s annual tourism convention.
Every year, hundreds of people gather for this Mexico travel event, celebrating Mexican life and tourism by showcasing the beauty of traditional Mexican costumes from every state in the nation — from Aguascalientes and Baja California to Yucatan and Zacatecas.
In my latest Mexico travel video, I take you inside the event to show some of the most interesting and beautiful Mexican clothing, Mexican dances and Mexican music from a variety of states, including Campeche, Chiapas, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Mexico City, Michoacan, Sinaloa (including the carnival queens of Mazatlan) and Tabasco.
I also show some of the diversity of the state of Guerrero, the host state — especially Acapulco, where some festive drag queens were present to promote the destination’s growing popularity as an LGBTQ travel destination. Acapulco hosted its first LGBTQ pride beach festival this month.
Naval officers greeted guests at a Tianguis evening event. Zoot suits exuded a retro cool vibe at a closing party hosted by Mexico City Mexican lucha libre wrestler strikes a pose. This deer costume ties in with traditional clothing from Mazatlan, Sinaloa Carnaval dancers from Mazatlan. LGBTQ pride was present with some cool drag queens from Acapulco. Mexican lucha libre wrestlers and a ref from Mexico City.
Mexico’s annual tourism conference is one of my favorite events of the year, and one of my favorite times to take Mexico travel photos, since I get to photograph so many different people representing various Mexican states. My full report about the latest Mexico travel news to come from Tianguis appears in TravelAge West, the leading travel trade publication in the western United States. But my favorite photos and videos from the event always appear right here, in my travel blog and also on my YouTube channel, LatinFlyerTV (where I also share lots of travel tips and give hotel reviews complete with guest room video tours).

BOOK COVER REVEAL! My Memoir About Life, Death & Frequent Flyer Miles is Ready to Order

I’d love to hear from other travelers about their favorite places to visit in Mexico, and their favorite Mexican cultural traditions, costumes and clothing. Every region is unique and has its own allure, and that’s why vacations in Mexico are such rewarding experiences. You can plan the best time to visit Mexico based on the climate of each destination, of course, but you can also time it to coincide with special events, like Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Carnaval or various religious festivals.
Long story short, Mexico is a diverse and expansive country. You can craft the vacation experience you want. Just be sure to take a lot of photos!
I’m a travel writer, travel blogger and Mexico travel specialist, and I love sharing travel tips to make your next vacation or business trip better. I also have a new memoir coming out this year: Prepare for Departure: Notes on a Single Mother, a Misfit Son, Inevitable Mortality and the Enduring Allure of Frequent Flyer Miles. Pre-publication sales start in May 2022 and the book publishes in July 2022.
Please feel free to share your comments, experiences and questions about Mexico travel and Latin America travel and vacations!
