If you like boutique hotel style and unique luxury travel experiences, then just might love the Brick Hotel, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World in Mexico City. Located in the trendy neighborhood called Roma Norte, this Mexico City hotel has just 17 guest rooms, including spacious hotel suites with balconies and terraces. The hotel’s restaurants serve a sophisticated international menu that includes — surprisingly — the best beef tongue and best fried chicken that I’ve ever tasted.
Mexico City has long been known for its excellent hotels and creative cuisine. So it’s no surprise to find a boutique property of this quality in Mexico’s capital. I included the Brick Hotel, in fact, in my recent report in TravelAge West Magazine about the newest must-try hotel restaurants in Mexico City, in which I highlighted several of the most interesting new options in this sophisticated metropolis. Now it’s time to share the complete travel video of my visit to the Brick Hotel, so you can get a first-person peek at this stylish hotel and its noteworthy restaurant. As is nearly always the case with boutique hotels, the Brick Hotel is unique, and it’s well worth exploring.

Set partially in a former residence built around the turn of the last century (using bricks brought from England, hence the name), the Brick Hotel’s original structure has a rather interesting history, as it served as a brothel for upper-level politicians many decades ago. An earlier incarnation of the hotel went out of business, but the latest version opened in late 2020 and is truly impressive.
The Brick enjoys a prized location just steps from the many restaurants, shops and nightlife establishments that make Roma Norte one of the hippest places to be. But this Mexico City hotel offers something of an upscale oasis, and you could easily spend most of your time inside the property, since the guest rooms are so comfortable and the food is so good.

I especially liked the two-story guest rooms with the large bathrooms that open out onto private balconies. The stylish artwork that graces many parts of the property lend an especially creative touch to the ambiance and the jacaranda trees are an especially lovely sight in the spring from the rooftop deck, which is a lovely place for cocktails as well as morning yoga classes. The hotel has a spa too, although it was closed due to pandemic-era restrictions during my visit.
Chef Armando Acosta does a great job crafting a sophisticated menu with diverse roots; his time spent in the southern United States shows with his skill at creating especially tasty fried chicken. Even the iceberg lettuce salad was tasty and beautifully presented. If you’re looking to arrange a group dinner or a special event, the restaurant also has a couple of extremely attractive, trendy private dining rooms.
