Like anyone else who’s planning a destination wedding, LGBTQ couples are looking for a truly memorable experience. In the Riviera Nayarit, a popular beach vacation destination located on Mexico’s Pacific coast, one of the most interesting options is a Huichol wedding, which incorporates elements from the region’s largest indigenous group.
During my current visit to Mexico City, I attended an LGBTQ pride month event at the W Mexico City that was hosted by the Riviera Nayarit tourism office. During the event, we were treated to an actual Huichol commitment ceremony for a lesbian couple. It was a colorful, unique and touching experience — and while it may not have taken place on the beach, the LGBTQ wedding provided a great example of what couples can expect if they choose such an option with a destination wedding in the Riviera Nayarit.

The video on my YouTube channel shows the ceremony itself, as well as some insight about how welcoming the Riviera Nayarit is for LGBTQ travelers. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, you can appreciate the beautiful visuals of the ceremony (and if you plan your own LGBTQ destination wedding, you can easily arrange for a translator for the ceremony).
A number of hotels — including some of the region’s most luxurious — offer a variety of options for LGBTQ destination weddings, including the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, W Punta de Mita, Conrad Punta de Mita and the Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit.

The Riviera Nayarit offers lots of reasons for LGBTQ couples to consider a destination wedding there — including uncrowded beaches, lots of natural beauty, sumptuous hotels and a variety of charming beach towns that are great for exploring and relaxing. The fact that you can also opt for a unique destination wedding with authentic cultural roots makes it even more worthwhile.
