During my first-ever visit to León, the largest city in the Mexican state of Guanajuato, my goal was to find a reasonably priced hotel in the historic city center. I chose the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham León. My latest travel video provides an inside tour of the hotel and what I liked best about it (and also what to look out for).
In the video, we visit the hotel lobby, bar and lounge, one of the cheapest guest rooms and two restaurants, including a brand new venue called La Esmeralda del Bajio, which serves creative cocktails and authentic cuisine and hosts live music on some nights (you’ll get to hear some in this video).
The Ramada Plaza by Wyndham León has a central downtown location.

La Esmeralda del Bajio, was one of the things I liked the most about this hotel — the food was excellent and so were the live entertainment and the cocktails, as well as the view of the sunset over the city square. Also in the creative culinary vein is Chinguere, the small ice cream shop on the lobby level, which specializes in alcohol-infused flavors (I tried the Bailey’s Irish Cream version and it was quite tasty).
When it comes to accommodations at the Ramada Plaza by Wyndham León, you should make your decision carefully. I chose solely based on budget and ended up with a room in the back, with a view that was far from memorable (some might call it ugly). While my room was certainly comfortable, decently furnished and offered the same good downtown location as any other room in the building, I had known about the lack of view, I probably would have splurged on a room in the front of the building, so I could have woken up gazing at the pristinely manicured trees on the gorgeous city square, rather than a semi-clean air conditioning unit.
