Cocktails With a View: 5 Great Rooftop Hotel Bars in Latin America

In a recent article for my Orbitz business travel blog, I highlighted several of the best rooftop hotel bars and restaurants in the United States. That got me thinking about my favorite places for a cocktail with a view in Latin America. The result is this list; a few of the best places I’ve found to drink in the scenery — and the spirits.

1. Condesa DF, Mexico City
One of Mexico City’s most stylish boutique hotels, the Condesa DF — which belongs to the ultra-chic Grupo Habita — has a wonderful fourth-floor rooftop terrace where guests may choose from both sushi and cocktail menus, as they enjoy a tranquil view of verdant España Park.

2. W Santiago, Santiago de Chile
Starwood’s W brand can almost always be counted on to provide an interesting venue for a drink, and the W Santiago is no exception. The 21st-floor WET rooftop pool is flanked by a bar that offers inspiring views and creative cocktails. I met a woman who claimed to be a baroness one night here, who tugged my hair as she said it was destiny that she would meet my colleagues and me that night.

3. Hotel Unique, Sao Paulo

Quite likely the most architecturally unforgettable hotel in Brazil’s largest city, the watermelon-shaped Hotel Unique is home to Skye, a rooftop bar and restaurant with a “crimson red” pool that has an underwater sound system. Ibirapuera Park sits in the distance, and patrons indulge in food and drink created by Chef Emmanuel Bassoleil.

4. Holiday Inn, Santo Domingo

Holiday Inn’s global relaunch and redesign has resulted in a bunch of great new hotels around the world, and the Holiday Inn Santo Domingo, in the capital of the Dominican Republic is among the best examples I’ve seen of the brand’s design-conscious new vibe. Located on the upscale Abraham Lincoln Avenue, this glistening modern tower has a small but attractive rooftop pool area that also serves as a stylish venue for evening cocktails.

5. Miramar InterContinental, Panama City

The sliver-like skyscraper that is the Miramar InterContinental offers one of the absolute best views of Panama City’s dramatic bay and skyline. And the best way to enjoy it is to splurge on a room on the club level, which — in addition to free cocktails and generous hors d’oeuvres in the club lounge — provides access to a provide rooftop pool with amazing views. The staff of the lounge will be happy to serve you drinks as you sit poolside and gaze at the ever-growing skyline.   InterContinental Hotels and Resorts – Click here
