The Top 5 Hotels in Chihuahua, Mexico

During my press trip to the city of Chihuahua this year, I checked out a variety of the best hotels in this fascinating city, which is located in northern Mexico.

The city is an enticingly inexpensive place to stay, if you know where to look. Some limited-service hotel chains in brand-new buildings might charge well over $100 a night, but some full-service, upscale brands can surprisingly be had for less money. And there’s definitely enough to do in this Mexican city to make it worth at least a two- or three-night stay, perhaps before or after a Copper Canyon vacation.

Here are some of the best hotels in Chihuahua to fit a variety of tastes and budgets:

Best Large Hotel in Chihuahua — Downtown: Quality Inn Chihuahua
Set in a large building in the heart of downtown (just behind the cathedral), this Chihuahua hotel offers budget-friendly prices for decently appointed rooms, with free continental breakfast and free WiFi included.  Click here to read my full review of the Quality Inn Chihuahua.

Best Full-Service Luxury Hotel in Chihuahua: Sheraton Chihuahua Soberano
Located northwest of downtown, this 204-room Chihuahua hotel has lots of amenities, including a fitness center, racquetball court, outdoor swimming pool, free WiFi, an elegant restaurant and lots of meeting space. Interestingly, the room rates at this Mexico hotel are often lower than at limited-service hotels in the city (use LatinFlyer’s search engine to compare on a variety of the top travel sites).

Best Mid-Price Hotel with Style in an Upscale Neighborhood: Ramada Encore Chihuahua
Located in an upscale, business-oriented neighborhood called Juventud, the Radisson Encore Chihuahua hotel is set in a modern building. In keeping with Ramada’s Encore brand, the mood is rather hip, with a fresh ambiance and stylish furnishings in the lobby — but a mid-priced positioning (somewhat like Starwood’s Aloft brand). Part of the InterContinental Hotels Group, the Staybridge Suites Chihuahua is located within walking distance to the Fashion Mall. The hotel offers a free shuttle to some nearby places, and has on-site guest laundry facilities, free WiFi, free breakfast buffet, suites with kitchens and — most interestingly — a cinema room that screens a variety of movies and entertainment.

Best Non-Chain Hotel in Chihuahua: Hotel Don Ruben
It won’t win any design or decor awards, to be sure. But guests at the Don Ruben love the cheap room rates, as well as amenities like the small exercise room, free area shuttle, free breakfast and WiFi and free parking.
