They say that no city in the world has more museums than Mexico City (except maybe London). And one of the newest offers an especially trippy experience: the Museo del Futuro (Museum of the Future). My latest unfiltered travel video shows what you can expect.
Every time I visit Mexico City, I try to visit a museum I’ve never seen before. And on my most recent trip, I found this one by accident, while strolling down Paseo de la Reforma, the city’s grandest boulevard. I noticed a line of tourists standing at the entrance to the former Hotel Reforma, a long-defunct Mexico City hotel. I saw a big sign that said MUFO, Googled it on my cell phone and then quickly snapped up a reserved admission ticket online.

The Museo del Futuro is actually a temporary attraction, so I’m not sure if you’d really call it a museum, but that’s what they call it. MUFO is an immersive collection of exhibits set on two levels of the former Hotel Reforma, enticing visitors with its multimedia, flashy LED and video exhibits, all of which are designed to be eye-catching, dazzling and decidedly Instagrammable. If you’re looking for unique travel photos and videos, MUFO is a good place for you.
The exhibits feature work by artists from Mexico, Turkey and Spain. It feels as if some of may have been created by aliens looking to communicate with, entertain and perhaps brainwash us earthlings without using a single word. You’ll know what I mean when you’re standing with throngs of people in one of the darkened rooms, silently mesmerized by the flashing, undulating lights and bizarre atmospheric music.

What does this all mean? I’m not sure, but it was fun to see anyway. And the exhibits are flashy enough for children, too, so it’s a good option for family vacations in Mexico City.
How to Buy Tickets to the Museo del Futuro
You can buy tickets to the Museum of the Future in person or using this site. To avoid long lines, it’s recommended to purchase tickets online before arrival.
How Much Does Admission to the Museo del Futuro Cost?
Here’s one downside: the admission price for the Museum of the Future is quite pricey, compared to most all other cultural attractions and museums in Mexico City — and it’s definitely not the most fascinating or extensive museum in the city.

Admission prices vary by day, so you’ll do best if you compare prices and visit on one of the cheaper days. Admission ranges from 250 Mexican pesos on Monday and Tuesday to 300 pesos on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 350 pesos on the weekend. I strongly recommend going on the cheapest days. Admissions are timed precisely, and the museum estimates that a walk-through takes about 60 minutes, but you can stay longer, and there is also an onsite bar and restaurant.
If you’re looking for new things to do in Mexico as well as some interesting new travel photo opportunities for Instagram selfies, you might want to consider a trip into the future at this museum.
