Inkaterra Machu Picchu
The Deal: Spectacled Bear package
What Makes It Cool: Just in time for the U.S. release of the movie Paddington 2, the Peruvian hotelier Inkaterra is inviting guests to experience the Andean Spectacled Bear in Peru with a special package at its Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. Also known as the Andean Bear, the name is based on the rings or “spectacles” of light fur surrounding the animal’s eyes and sometimes extending down the chest. Located directly on the reserve and property grounds, Inkaterra’ s Andean Spectacled Bear Project is currently home to five bears, with an ongoing mission to help save the endangered species and secure its future in South America. In conjunction with Inkaterra’s non-profit organization, Inkaterra Asociación and the Peruvian National Park Service, the conservation project offers visitors exclusive access to the bears’ natural habitat while also providing an opportunity to shadow the project’s keepers and understand their day-to-day activities. In addition to learning about the educational project, the Spectacled Bear package includes three nights of accommodations in a rustic casita at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, visit to the Andean Spectacled Bear project, a three-hour privately guided excursion to UNESCO World Heritage Site Machu Picchu citadel, programmed guided excursions within hotel grounds and a take-home gift. The three-night Spectacled Bear package at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel starts at $1,013 (based on double occupancy in a superior casita) and includes roundtrip transfers from Machu Picchu Pueblo train station, daily breakfast, lunch and dinner, and 10% service.
Valid for Travel: Based on availability.
