My reviews of two hot hotels, on

A family of friendly horses reside at the private stable at Estancia Vik, a luxury boutique hotel in Uruguay.

I recently took part in an excellent trip to Argentina and Uruguay with Latin America specialist Borello Travel & Tours, and during that time I was able to check out two picturesque and luxurious boutique hotels in Maldonado, a tiny town on the coast of Uruguay, just minutes from the red-hot beach destination called Punta del Este.

While these hotels are part of the same company, they are each unique. Estancia Vik is a ranch-like property with rolling hills and horses, while the newer Playa Vik is a trendy beachfront getaway with contemporary architecture and water views. If you’re looking for a stylish vacation next winter, remember that in Uruguay it’s summer, and these two Vik properties are well worth considering.
