Immersive art exhibits are all the rage nowadays, and Mexico City is a hotspot for these multimedia temporary attractions, just like New York City, Los Angeles and other destinations around the world. This year, I’ve had the chance to visit a couple.
Mexico City is already known as the city with more museums than any other destination on earth, except perhaps London. Well, these attractions up the ante with decidedly 21st-century technology and imagination providing the tools to look at centuries-old creators in a whole new way. Both the Monet Experience and the Da Vinci Experience are fascinating, engaging introductions to the work and genius of two creative masterminds. In addition, their multi sensory approach make it more interesting for children; a new gateway to learning. In short, if you’re looking for interesting things to do in Mexico City, these immersive exhibits might be worth a visit.

What also struck me is the difference in price. You may have heard of the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit in the United States, which costs about$40 to $60 to get in. Well, the Da Vinci Experience costs about $10, including a bonus 3D experience at the end. Talk about getting more for your money.
To give you an idea of what these two exhibits entail — and to give you an opportunity to compare them to their much pricier counterparts in the United States, if you’ve already visited those, I’ve created two travel videos that highlight both the Monet Experience and the Da Vinci Experience. In both cases, nearly all of the text and information is only in Spanish, but the highly visual (and musical) nature of the exhibits can make them engaging, even if you can’t read a word of Spanish.

My most recent visit to Mexico City included a stop at the Da Vinci Experience (and you can check out my latest travel video of the exhibit here, or by scrolling down in this post). Running through the end of 2021 at Plaza Carso, an upscale shopping mall in Mexico City’s Polanco district, this multimedia exhibit showcases the varied work and talents of Leonardo Da Vinci, highlighting his life story and creations in art, architecture, science and engineering.
You’ll have to move fast if you want to see the Monet Experience, which is on exhibit at Forum Buenavista, a gigantic shopping mall in Mexico City, through the end of summer 2021. It’s a vibrant, atmospheric venue filled with color, light, music and impressionistic art viewed in a high-tech format. As with the Da Vinci Experience, I paid a bit extra to don goggles for the 3D experience at the Monet Experience, and it was well worth the money.
You can see my video highlights of the Monet Experience here (or simply scroll down and click).
These are just two examples of several immersive, multimedia art exhibits taking place in Mexico’s capital, and a great example of the diverse things to do in Mexico City. I hope to see even more, so stay tuned.
