Taiwan’s oldest city, Tainan offers lots to see Taiwan’s oldest city, Tainan offers lots to see and do. We only had 24 hours to explore but we certainly saw a lot! These are some highlights.

Would you eat in a toilet-themed restaurant? Well Would you eat in a toilet-themed restaurant? Well we did in Taipei. Modern Toilet is a decidedly colorful place for a meal and some selfies. Nearly all the decor is bathroom- and toilet-themed. We sat on (decommissioned) toilets and drank beverages served in mini toilet bowls and mini urinals. Even some of the food is served in mini toilet bowls (the chicken curry was surprisingly good). And if you visit the actual bathroom, guess where you have to wash your hands? In a repurposed toilet bowl.

This was a fun and offbeat lunch with great photo opportunities. Although my husband noted that we were the only people eating there who didn’t have kids with us (apparently he still doesn’t realize that he married a kid!).

Opened in 2008; the Formosa Boulevard station is p Opened in 2008; the Formosa Boulevard station is part of the MRT metro system in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It’s been ranked as one of the most beautiful rapid transit stations in the world multiple times — and after seeing it in person we agree!

The four glass entrances were designed by Japanese architecture firm Shin Takamatsu Architect & Associates. But the inside is even more spectacular.
•
The main focal point is called “The Dome of Light: Wind, Fire and Time,” and it’s supposedly the largest illuminated glass dome in the world. It was designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata. 
•
It depicts a “narrative of the human experience,” according to the artist, and it’s a major tourist attraction.
