Should You Visit Mexico Now? Mexico Travel Advice from Two Travel Bloggers

Should you travel to Mexico now? As the world faces new realities during the coronavirus pandemic, deciding whether or not to travel is a very personal decision — whether you’re planning a Mexico vacation or a trip to visit family just a couple hours from your house.

To provide a reality check on what it’s really like to travel to Mexico today, I teamed up with fellow travel writer, travel blogger and overall brilliant friend Meagan Drillinger, who runs the blog Drillinjourneys, for a video chat on YouTube Live — but if you missed the live broadcast, never fear: you can watch the full video here (or scroll to the bottom of the page if you’re reading this on the LatinFlyer.com Website).

Meagan does a great job of summing up the main points of the video in her latest Instagram post, as you can see below.

Should you travel to mexico now? The eternal question springs again. Fortunately, fellow Mexico expert and dear friend @mundera and i broke down the Mexico travel experience on a YouTube live session. You can view the full segment in my bio but here are some takeaways: ✔️Mexico is working very diligently to ensure travel to the country is safe and hygienic. Hotels, airports, tour companies, and attractions are operating at reduced capacity and have implemented measures for extra sanitizing and social distancing. ✔️Masks are required for all employees, and are required in most places outside of hotels for everyone (this is not true in every state in Mexico). ✔️Masks are encouraged for guests in public spaces at many resorts, but this is not enforced. Most guests are not wearing masks at all. ✔️Each state is handling reopening differently. For example, los Cabos and Quintana Roo are opening with limited capacities and no beach access for non-resort guests. Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco is pretty much back to normal. ✔️You do not need to quarantine as a visitor in Mexico. If you live in the US you do not have to quarantine when you return home. Canadians have to quarantine for 2 weeks when they return home. Trudeau 👏 ✨ So those are the facts. How do i personally feel? I feel that i know how frustrating it is to be homebound for months on end. And Mexico is technically open to travel… ✨ But i still firmly believe that it would be irresponsible to go back to traveling as we used to right at this very moment. In case you missed it, there is still a pandemic going on. But Mexico is working TIRELESSLY to bring tourism back because their economy is vitally dependent on tourism. It’s definitely a conundrum and a personal struggle for me. I think if you do make the decision to travel, please do so as responsibly as possible. This can include: ✔️A test before and after you go ✔️Wash your hands a lot ✔️WEAR A DAMN MASK! These people are busting their asses to welcome you back into their country, the least we can do is keep them safe, too.

Like me, Meagan writes about Mexico’s tourism industry every month. And like me, she loves Mexico. Together, we make a pretty good team when it comes to providing useful Mexico travel tips and answering questions that travelers might have. Our goal is to help you make wise travel decisions as we all adjust to the new normal. As you can see from her post above, one of our main messages is this: you simply can’t travel the same way you used to, and right now, not everyone should even be considering travel to Mexico, or anywhere else, for that matter.

If you do travel, however, be responsible. Wear a mask, practice social distancing and do what you can to protect yourself and others. We’re all in this together.
