If you’re looking for a pleasant place for your next beach vacation, you might want to consider one of the freshest names in the Mexican Caribbean: the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya, an adults-only, all-inclusive hotel that debuted in December 2022.
My full hotel review will appear soon in TravelAge West, the leading travel trade publication in the western USA. But for now, I’d like to share the top 10 reasons to love the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya. You can also get a peek inside the resort in the hotel tour travel video I’ve posted.
- Attractive decor: Soothing tones give this Mexico beach resort a decidedly relaxing ambiance. Playa Hotels & Resorts, which runs this property, invested a massive amount of time and money to create an especially attractive place for an adults-only Mexico vacation. That’s especially evident in the handsomely appointed guest rooms (and if you really want to splurge, go for one of the new swim-up suites).
2. Ideal size: If you’ve ever been to one of those gigantic all-inclusive resorts that dot the coast, you know that it can get tiring to walk for 15 minutes just to get to the beach or a restaurant. With just 291 rooms, the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya is a welcoming size, and you can stroll just about anywhere in a matter of seconds or minutes.
3. Large beach: A wide swath of inviting sand (wider than many other hotels) provides lots of space to stretch out and soak up the sun.
4. Relaxing environment: Some hotels blast the entertainment every day, with things like poolside exercise classes and music and dance performances. The noise level is beautifully low at the Hyatt Zilara, making it easier to relax and talk (yet there are still lots of entertainment options).
5. Beautiful Spa: The hotel’s Zen Spa is wonderfully designed with a large outdoor relaxation area that’s perfect for lying back and rejuvenating.
6. Unique Mayan ceremonies: Most Mayan ceremonies at hotels are nothing more than a dance and musical performance with a bit of smoke but not much depth. Here, the weekly ceremonies feature a presentation that not only talks about Mayan traditions and ways of thinking, but also puts them in the context of everyday life.
7. Tasty cocktails: I enjoyed a wonderful cocktail tasting session at the hotel lobby bar, and there are plenty of places to sip something noteworthy.
8. Delicious cuisine: With four restaurants, the Hyatt Zilara offers a variety of culinary delights, from coastal Italian dishes Asian and Mexican cuisine. For casual fare in between meals, I loved stopping by Coffee Republic, which features a variety of tasty snacks.
9. Excellent excursions: The hotel’s proximity to Tulum made it easy for us to enjoy a day trip organized by the onsite tour operator, Discova, that was offered by a company called Ekinox. The tour included a visit to the picturesque seaside ruins of Tulum as well as Canamayte, a Mayan community that has two cenotes (sinkholes that are great for swimming). The hotel is only six miles from Playa del Carmen, too.
10. Gorgeous pool area: The hotel pool area is expansive, beautifully landscaped and was never crowded during my visit. There are, in fact, lots of places to enjoy the scenery at this resort.
One other thing to note: if you’re a frequent Hyatt guest, you can take advantage of extra benefits since this property is part of the World of Hyatt. If you stay at Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya by February 28, 2023, for example, you can earn 500 World of Hyatt points per qualifying nights. That can make your time in paradise even more rewarding.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya, and find it to be a good option for couples, friends and families of adults looking for an all-inclusive Mexico vacation lots of opportunities for relaxation.
